Welcome to PB&J

This blog is a place to come and find recipes, decorating ideas, diy projects, home renovation ideas, gardening tips and more. I hope you enjoy the content and share it with family and friends.

Why PB&J? It's actually our initials - Peggy Baldridge & Jim, but I also love the thought of a good PB&J and the memories that brings. What memories do you think of when you think of a PB&J? For me, it brings back memories of childhood, fishing trips, lunches and boating on the lake. I hope some of the things on this blog will spur some of those good memories for you, as well as helping you make new ones.

Today is January 1, 2022. Happy New Year! At the end of every year my husband and I do a budget for the next year. Yes, he is a numbers nerd. For decades I have dreaded our "annual budget meeting", however; over the years I have come to appreciate the value that it brings and the knowledge that we can ascertain from keeping track of our spending. I can tell you how much we spent on groceries, clothing, home repair or any of our multiple other line items. :) One line item we struggle with each year is "Household". This budget is used for things we buy for the house, like a new ceiling fan or a new lamp or new pillows. This is not something I always think of in advance, which means when I want to replace faucets or doorknobs and they aren't in the budget, it doesn't always go over well. One way I can work around this, is by coming up with a way to do things myself that cost less than replacing an entire item.

I enjoy doing projects around the house, for the most part. For example, this year I want to replace some light fixtures. Instead of replacing them, I have decided to take them down and paint them, which will cost me a lot less. I will be sure to take pictures and post the before and after photos on here as we go. Last year I redid my kitchen cabinets. They turned out amazing. Yes, it was a lot of work, but it cost me less than $100 to redo them all. We replaced the floors as well, which I did not take on and do myself. Some things I choose to pay someone to do the work. I am terrible at remembering to take before photos, like when I redid the kitchen. See the before color of the cabinet and after photos below.

If you ever need any interior decorating advice or want to know how to do a project that I am familiar with, I'm happy to help you get started. Just send me a message. If you are in the market for a new house or want to fix up your house to sell, I can help you with that too. Here's to 2022, a year of learning new things, taking on new challenges and making new memories.
