What Are Your Go-To Snacks When It's Going To Be A Busy Day?
When I have a day of running errands or back to back appointments or showing houses to clients, I always like to take snacks with me in the car. I want those snacks to be healthy snacks and have some protein. I thought I would share some of my go-to's with you.
My favorite is Bulletproof's chocolate dipped collagen bar. They are gluten, dairy and sugar free and are made mainly of cashews. Each bar has 160 calories, 7 g protein, 4 g net carbs and 12 g fat. If I have to be somewhere early, I will eat one of these for breakfast with my cup of coffee. If I'm out in the afternoon and have to skip lunch I'll eat one with a piece of fruit for lunch. I like to keep them in the fridge. If it's hot out, the chocolate tends to melt easily. You can find them at Whole Foods or order them online by clicking here. In addition, I like to keep around what I call, protein sticks. Chomps makes good quality turkey or beef sticks. Archer makes a grass-fed beef stick. Both of these have good ingredients and no added sugar. Another alternative would be a healthy beef jerky. Just choose something that's grass fed, free range or organic and doesn't have added sugar and a lot of artificial ingredients. You can find Chomps at Kroger, Whole Foods or Trader Joes. Costco and Kroger sell Archer sticks. I like to have an apple with a protein stick for a more balanced snack.
Protein drinks are very popular these days. I can't have dairy, so my favorite protein drink is OWYN elite chocolate. To be honest, I have't tried very many because most of them have ingredients that I won't drink. OWYN elite has 32 grams of protein and 200 calories. If you drink protein shakes, just be sure to read the ingredients.
Last, but not least, fruit is my favorite snack. I always have some kind of fruit on hand, depending on what's in season. In the winter I usually have apples and oranges. In the summer, berries are my favorite. Just remember if you are having a fruit that is high is sugar, pair it with a protein stick or protein shake or a nut butter or some nuts. The protein will help keep your blood sugar from spiking. Nuts are also a great snack, just try to limit the amount to 1/4 cup. If you are on the go, measure them out ahead of time so you aren't just eating them out of the bag.
I also make sure to take plenty of water with me. We should be drinking half our weight in ounces of water every day. I know that's a lot of water, but it's easy to get in when you are in the car or out running errands if you don't forget to take it with you.
